Different Types Of Hair Extensions For Men

Types of  hair extensions are strands or curtains of hair that will add to the hair itself and give it depth, volume, density, and, if you want, length. If your virtue is not the patience to let your hair grow or you want a more lush and full-bodied mane, natural or synthetic extensions —cheaper but less recommended— can be a temporary solution. Do you want to know more? Keep reading.

Types Of Hair Extensions For Men

First, we should remember that we will find synthetic and natural hair extensions with noticeable price differences. But it would help if you first decided whether you want fixed or temporary extensions. Depending on it, you can find clip-in, semi-permanent or permanent extensions. These are the most common types:

  • Clip-In Extensions

They are temporary hair extensions, usually used to improve hairstyles and achieve the necessary volume.  Allow you to gain length and density at specific moments and instantly. They are a kind of hair curtains that include clips or brooches for placement. It is straightforward to put them on, and you do not need professional help.

  • Adhesive Extensions

Also known as tape, they are semi-permanent and adhesive extensions whose placement is quite simple. They will make up of thin, horizontal sections of hair. They last up to three months and can reuse up to three times.

The adhesive tape they will fix is very comfortable and allows the sections to integrate perfectly. They are also straightforward to install, even with non-professional hands. But, of course, when removing them, it is necessary to apply a special solvent liquid that undoes the glue.

  • Staple Extensions

These men’s hair extensions will attach with small metal pieces that hold each strand. Then, staples are fixed and removed from the hair with the help of special pliers. There are also techniques such as a micro ring or micro loop placed on the lock of hair with a plastic loop that allows the hair to be “threaded.”

The benefit of this type of extension is that they do not require applying any adhesive on the hair, although you will have to touch them up every month to raise them at the rate natural hair grows. Another drawback is that staples can be uncomfortable and less inconspicuous than other methods.

  • Sewn Extensions

They are placed on the hair using a horizontal braid made with the natural hair itself and work as support, forming a kind of curtain that will integrate into your hair. It should touch up every 15 days, approximately.

  • Keratin Extensions

A heat gun melts the adhesive of each false strand on the natural hair. You can add as many strands as necessary to achieve the desired volume. However, they must be fitted by an experienced professional.

These are fixed extensions that can remain in the hair for up to four months, as long as the maintenance is adequate.

Editor’s tip: Don’t confuse men’s hair extensions with hair systems. These are pieces made up of a mesh base with hair fibers (synthetic or natural) that adheres to the scalp to cover the areas where the hair has been lost or is not as dense. They can be total prosthetics, which cover the entire head, or partial or applied, which cover a particular area.

What are the Best Hair Extensions?

Human hair postponements are the best option for long-term use. Since they have the same composition as the hair, they offer a natural result, making it practically impossible to differentiate them. In addition, they allow the use of thermal tools without fear of damaging them.

If it is the first time you will use hair extensions for men, clip-ins are a good idea. Once you decide if you like them, you can opt for more durable—yet comfortable and easy to put on—like tape-in extensions. However, now that you are looking for higher-quality ones, it is best to resort to keratin ones.
